The crescent shape of the site is overlaid with a 1.2m module allowing for efficiencies and standardisation in construction throughout the development (most building materials come in standardised 1.2m sizes).
This module is expressed vertically with fins, creating a modular rhythm to the street frontage.
In places the module is left open to create breathing spaces: gardens, balconies and access between buildings. The fins frame 1.2m units of brickwork, glazing and door openings.
The combination of the crescent shape, modular approach and the rhythm of breaks between buildings creates a low cost, high quality, contemporary, contextual architecture with a strong sense of place and neighbourly interaction.
